Farpoint Films Acquiring Scotfree Productions and Names New President

WINNIPEG (January 21, 2025) - Farpoint Films announced today they are acquiring Scotfree Productions, with owner Scott R. Leary tapped to become Farpoint’s Chief Content Officer in addition to joining the ownership team of the Farpoint Group of companies. Additionally, Chris Charney, Head Writer & Partner at Farpoint, has been appointed to president of Farpoint Films.

The moves come as the Winnipeg-based company celebrates its 25th year of film and television production.

Leary (via Scotfree Productions) has been working alongside Farpoint Films for more than 15 years and has been the creator and producer of such award-winning projects as: Cruise Ship Killers, The Illegal Eater, Room for Rent and more.

“This is a result of the strong working relationship I’ve had with Farpoint over the past 15 years and allows me to take on an official roll in leading the young and dynamic team that Farpoint has assembled,” said Leary.

At the same time, Charney steps into president’s role that will see him head up the company’s production and post-production strategies, including its current output deal with Super Channel.

“I’m excited to take on this new leadership role within Farpoint as we continue to grow,” said Charney. “We’ve got an amazing staff that consistently produces world-class programs with no sign of slowing down anytime soon.”

With Charney as president, Kyle Bornais moves into the role of CEO within the Farpoint group which also includes Farpoint Distribution, which is run by President Craig McGillivray.

“I never imagined when we started Farpoint that we would be at this point 25 years later,” said Bornais. “These changes are a result of a lot of hard work from dedicated people over the years and I can’t wait to see what the future brings for our company. I am excited to be passing on the reigns to Chris and Scott and look forward to working with them and Craig in building the Farpoint brands international presence.”
