Farpoint Films announced today that new CBC Gem original unscripted series, Finding Diamonds (6x15), will launch tomorrow - Saturday, March 23, also National Puppy Day - on CBC Gem. All six episodes will be available to stream on-demand.
Finding Diamonds is a docu-series that follows filmmaker Ian Bawa and his dog, Diamond, as they travel across Canada exploring the relationship between humans and support animals in the face of trauma and grief.
Shortly after Bawa released his critically acclaimed short film about his relationship with his dad, Strong Son, his father passed away.
While Ian was in the lowest depths of grief and despair, a shining light came into his life: Diamond. Diamond is a one-eyed yellow Labrador/Husky that Ian had initially signed up to foster, but soon realized there was no way to let go of this dog — Diamond is his everything.
"My dog, Diamond, has been a gift to me, and to be able to share our story across Canada has been an even greater gift,” said Bawa.
“Diamond came to me during one of the saddest and darkest times of my life. Her energy and gentle nature brought me back to life. Finding Diamonds has allowed me to see that I was not alone in finding solace and strength in my furry best friend - and for that I am grateful."
Finding Diamonds features tales of grief and redemption found in the love of the smallest confidantes. These are stories filled with sadness, laughter, and ultimately, perspective.
While the series deals with deep subject matter and moments of grief and pain, it is also a love letter to the resiliency of the human spirit and connection to the animal bond.
All six episodes of Finding Diamondswill be available to watch for free on CBC Gem starting Saturday, March 23.
