Chris Charney divides his time between writing, story-editing, and researching for film and television. He has an English Literature degree from the University of Winnipeg, with a focus in creative writing and Can. Lit. Immediately after graduation, Charney set to publishing original works of fiction in magazines and literary journals across Canada while touring with the white-trash-rockabilly musical act The Royal Winnipeg Porn Orchestra. During numerous cross Canada tours opening for the likes of The English Beat, JFK and the Conspirators, and The Afterbeat, Charney took the time to not only forge his relationship with music but craft his romance with the written word.
In 2000, Charney began working at the University of Winnipeg's radio station, producing/writing/ and co-hosting Canada's first and longest running live on-air radio cooking show Matt and Chef Charney's Hotplate. The show was an instant success and listeners in Winnipeg and around the globe (online @ www.ckuw.ca) tuned in each week to listen to his culinary antics. Radio became Charney's foray into the motion picture industry when he sought out a film company to direct and edit a project born out of his experience as a radio performer. The company he hired was Farpoint Films Inc. and Charney has been working with Producer Kyle Bornais and Director John Barnard ever since.
In 2004 Chris Charney co-wrote Uncharted Surveyor: The Peter Fidler Story Parts I & II with Farpoint Films Inc. and in 2005 wrote Legacy In Stone: Manitoba's Legislative Building From Conception to Completion as well as Sierra's Song with Director John Barnard. Chris is currently writing a documentary film about a 1920's serial killer entitled Gorilla Trap: The Earle Leonard Nelson Story. He is also working on a feature length comedy entitled The Rich Guy which he developed in conjunction with the National Screen Institute's Feature's First program.
